3 emerging producers will participate in the Visitors Programme Berlinale Co-Production Market 2024.

VIPO has called for film producers to participate in the “Berlinale Co-Production Market Visitors Program”, which will be held at the European Film Market (EFM) as part of the Content-related Business Matching Project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Three Japanese emerging producers have been selected to participate this program.

By participating in this program, they will have a comprehensive experience of the key points for getting involved in international co-productions, such as activities at the market, networking with producers from other countries who are aiming for international co-productions, subsidy systems in each country, and recent trends in international co-productions.

◆Tomomi FURUYAMA
Tomomi Furuyama, whose acting name is Tomomi Kono, moved to Tokyo in her late twenties to pursue an acting career. She rose to fame as a producer in Hiroshi Takahashi’s film, “The House of the Serpent,” and founded her production company in 2022. Produced and starred in “Intimate Planet “(2023) and “Polar Night “(2023) and made a regular cast in HBO Max Originals “Tokyo Vice” (2022). Project is underway with an international co-production in mind for Hiroshi Takahashi Hiroshi’s new film ‘The Night Has a Thousand Eyes’ and Koji Shiraishi’s new film ‘Red Spider Lily’.

◆Daiju KOIDE
While enrolling at Waseda University, he studied under director Hirokazu Kore-eda. After graduating, he joined TOEI COMPANY, LTD. in 2016, where he worked in the TV Production Department as an assistant producer of “Kamen Rider Zi-O” and other productions. In addition, he produced some short films such as “Hajimari” (2017, Kohei Imanaka), “Iwa wo mo tosu murashige” (2017, Shuko Nemoto), and the full-length film “Goldfish by the Sea” (2021, Sara Ogawa, nominated for competition at the Jeonju Film Festival). In 2019, he moved to the position at the Department of Film and has produced “LIP×LIP FILM×LIVE” (2020, original story by HoneyWorks), “Helldogs” (2022, Masato Harada), “Shin Masked Rider” (2023, Hideaki Anno) and the broadcast documentary by NHK “Shin Masked Rider: Behind the Scenes of Hero Action Challenge”. He left Toei in September 2023 and joined K2 Pictures in October of the same year.

◆Kyoko TAKENAKA
Producer, Actress, Translator French-Japanese, Theater teaching. Kyoko moved to France in 2011 and became the first Japanese to pass the acting section of the French National School of Drama, and in 2016, she obtained the French National Actor’s Certificate. Based in Paris, she has appeared in many stage productions in Europe. In 2021, she wrote a scenario and produced the film “At Kinosaki” (as actress principale) directed by Shingo Ota, won the Excellence Award at Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2022. Since 2021, she has been working on all Shingo Ota’s films as producer. She got the Best Pitch Award in Cinema at Sea- Okinawa Pan-Pacific International Film Festival.

VIPO will provide maximum local support to ensure that this participation will lead to the development of each project, and will report on the experiences and learnings gained from this opportunity in a later report.
